DEFINITION: Senior airport maintenance worker performing both general labor and skilled work in the maintenance and repair of the airport terminal building, airfield, and other airport buildings with specialized emphasis on maintaining airport vehicles and equipment. Works closely with department management to ensure a safe, efficient, and passenger friendly airport environment. Ability to work independently.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Evaluates, troubleshoots, and makes repairs to vehicles and equipment including tractors, mowers, fire trucks, pickup trucks, hand motorized equipment, and other equipment as needed. Performs schedules inspection of vehicles and equipment and conducts routine maintenance (replacing fluids, lubricating parts, etc.) aiming to vehicle functionality and longevity. Provide accurate estimates (cost, time, effort) for repair and maintenance jobs. Keeps and maintains records and logs of repairs and preventative programs.
Performs general labor as directed in maintenance, repair and upkeep of airport facilities. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Three (3) years’ experience in general trades work in one or more of the building trades. Ability to handle various tools (e.g. pliers) and heavy equipment (e.g. lift). Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license. CDL with passenger endorsement required or ability to obtain within six (6) months of placement in position, is preferred.
MISCELLANEOUS REQUIREMENTS: Must pass pre-employment drug testing as well as periodic testing in accordance with airport policy; must pass a 10-year, fingerprint-based, criminal history records check as required by the Transportation Security Administration. Schedule may require shift-work to include evenings, weekends, and holidays to meet the needs of the airport. Subject to emergency call-out.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Both indoor and outdoor working environment with exposure to dust and pollen; subject to a variety of extreme weather conditions; exposure to constant noise as well as fumes and odors; susceptible to mechanical, chemical, electrical, as well as other safety hazards associated with the repair, maintenance and operation of an airport.
